Senior Policy & Regulation Specialist

We are the people behind Ireland’s electricity grid. We operate the power system with world leading levels of variable asynchronous renewable generation, ensuring that everyone has power when they need it. But that’s not all, we are now transforming the power system for future generations.

And that’s just the beginning of our story. We have a critical purpose. That purpose is to transform the power system to enable our society to reduce our carbon emissions and meet our climate change and net zero ambitions.

Be part of the transformation!
The Team

The Group Regulation Team is responsible for developing and implementing a strategic approach to regulatory matters which align with the ambitions of the Group, and has a pivotal role to play in supporting the delivery of EirGrid Groups’ Corporate Strategy in Ireland and in the evolving European energy landscape, including the energy transition, offshore development and European matters including future interconnection. This includes management and development of regulatory relationships, development of regulatory arrangements, revenue frameworks and price controls, formulation of Group Regulation Policy, management of the Customer Charging process for connecting parties in Ireland, and oversight of regulatory compliance and all relevant licensing, regulatory authorisations and consents.

The Opportunity
As a Senior Policy and Regulation Specialist, you will have a strong role in work on strategic onshore connection policy development for Ireland’s power system, working within a high profile team, and with senior personnel across the organisation covering a variety of disciplines.

Onshore connection policy is a critical component for connecting new customers to the power system, and providing quality connection offers to customers is an essential service provided by EirGrid. The work undertaken will therefore have significant customer impact and will be important in enabling the decarbonisation journey and helping deliver on EirGrid’s purpose to transform the power system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading cross functional company responses to regulatory consultations to influence agreed strategic outcomes.
  • Act as regulation lead for specific regulatory and commercial deliverables including as point of contact with the Commission for Regulation of Utilities in respect of same.
  • Working with team leadership on developing and leading new policies including representing the business at different levels internally and externally.
  • Support strategic regulatory projects particularly in areas of national importance such as security of supply, interconnection, and others.
  • Build an effective and trusted relationship with the regulator, managing and delivering regulatory requirements in a timely manner.
  • Provision of quality regulatory policy insights and input for the business.
  • Research in relation to regulatory approaches elsewhere and their applicability to the EirGrid group of businesses.
  • Provide regulatory support to other areas of the business in respect of relevant regulatory issues.
  • Support delivery of charging information for strategic customers connecting to the power system.

About You
  • A degree or other recognised qualification in business, economics, engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a similar role, in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Ability to draft and present documentation in a rational, evidence-based, clear and concise manner.
  • Excellent qualitative and quantitative analytical abilities, coupled with the ability to make reasoned judgements based on available information.
  • Ability to guide, persuade and influence others on regulatory matters.
  • High level of attention to detail and pride in one’s own work.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including report writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, while also being able to define and guide work under minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated flexible working approach with ability to prioritise a wide range of demands and activities whilst maintaining a professional and positive focus.
  • Experience of researching/drafting policy papers independently and as part of a team for publication.
  • Knowledge of and experience of working in a regulated utility/ regulator is desirable.
