In return, you’ll be warmly welcomed into a tight knit, passionate news team with New Zealand’s most experienced journalists.
Te Mahi – About the job

Develop and oversee compelling stories for RNZ’s on-air, online, and social media platforms.
-
Ensure content aligns with RNZ's editorial standards, focusing on originality, audience engagement, and live coverage.
- Stay informed on national and international news, identifying new story opportunities.
- Lead multimedia content creation, including text, audio, and visual elements for digital platforms.
-
Source and manage diverse talent, conduct interviews, and prepare briefing materials.
-
Break stories on-air and online, producing high-quality web and social media content.
-
Edit interviews, troubleshoot audio issues, and maintain a strong network of contacts.
-
Actively contribute to daily production meetings, collaborate across teams, and implement feedback for continuous improvement.
Ōu Pūkenga - About You
As well as having relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience, you will need to have a clear vocal delivery, strong pronunciation skills across English, Māori, and Pacific Island languages, and be able to pass an on-air audition.
We’re looking for a producer with strong interviewing and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships within teams and with external contacts. You’ll be experienced in networking with cultural and community groups, with excellent news gathering, research, and analytical abilities. A high level of initiative, strong writing, processing, and on-air skills are essential, along with the ability to produce engaging digital content.
Advanced live-to-air and Q&A skills, as well as strong audio packaging abilities, are required. Additionally, given it is a Senior Producer role, you will be expected to coach and mentor less experienced team members.
