Reporting to the Senior R&D Engineer II, the Senior R&D Engineer will work closely with all functions at all levels to plan, lead and manage the successful achievement of key project deliverables across the product development process. This is a great opportunity which will allow the successful candidate to take the next step in their career while working as part of a supportive, collaborative team in our state-of-the-art facility in Galway.


Job Requirements

Main Responsibilities

  • To contribute to ongoing development, improvement and extension of the company’s existing technology and intellectual property portfolio through innovation and invention.
  • To lead and provide design, development and technical input to the Company’s development projects through from concept to commercialisation.
  • Author/Input to design documentation relevant to the current phase of the project, including but not limited to technical reports, product specifications, risk management and quality documentation.
  • Resolve technical uncertainty and challenges to advance the product development
  • To perform project tasks as delegated by their Line Manager in adherence to the company’s procedures.
  • To co-ordinate resources assigned by the relevant manager(s) to complete designated tasks.
  • Develop an understanding of the disease state and clinical needs, and keep up to date with current devices and technologies.
  • To ensure that other project team members are aware of their role and function within that team and to communicate the results and findings of relevant work to the team in a clear and comprehensible manner.
  • To co-operate with the QA Department in developing test, verification and validation (including design review) procedures in relation to tasks designated by their Line Manager.
  • Commit to ongoing personal development to improve technical and leadership skillsets.
  • To strive for high performance of the R&D function by contributing or leading continuous improvement initiatives of R&D practices, knowledge and capabilities.
  • Other duties as required by the Company.

Education

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering or local equivalent in a scientific discipline and/or appropriate experience.

Experience

  • A minimum of five years’ relevent experience in the medical device industry preferably with Medical device product development experience.
  • Highly proficient user of finite element modelling software desirable.
  • Technical experience in CAD, Statistical tools and rapid prototyping is desirable.
  • Good knowledge of biomechanics and mechanical analysis & design.
  • Excellent oral and communication skills.
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and complete deliverables to defined timelines..
