Introduction:
At Bindaree, this role exists to keep our Cooma plant safe, compliant and running smoothly by making sure every part of by‑product processing is under control, from raw material flow and odour to effluent and waste. You will be the key point of responsibility for rendering and environmental systems on site, working closely with the Plant Manager, Environmental Officer and maintenance team to protect both people and the surrounding environment.

Description:
Your new day to day:

• Run the daily rendering, tallow, blood, paunch and hide areas, keeping product flowing from kill floor through to by‑product processing.
• Check yields and recovery of saleable product and update records so volumes, usage and waste are always accurate.
• Make sure all by‑product work meets required Australian and food standards, keeping key control points like temperature and separation within limits.
• Stay on top of odour around rendering, basement, hide and paunch areas, keeping systems working and logging and fixing any complaints.
• Direct wastewater and effluent from by‑product operations to the right treatment systems, watching solids, fats and protein levels to protect EPA compliance.
• Oversee the DAF unit and other environmental equipment, doing daily checks, cleaning, maintenance and reporting any failures quickly.
• Lead, train and supervise the by‑products team, setting clear expectations and promoting a strong safety and hygiene culture.
• Work with the maintenance team to keep equipment functional, report downtime fast and support preventative maintenance planning.

Skills and Experiences:
To be successful, you’ll need:

• Experience as a rendering operator in a red meat processing environment.
• Strong communication skills, able to work with people at all levels and build solid working relationships with internal teams and external auditors.
• Proven ability to lead people operationally, whether as a leading hand, supervisor or manager.
• Good organisational skills, with the ability to multi‑task, perform under pressure and adapt to change when needed.
• Sound technical knowledge of by‑products processes and environmental systems, with a dependable, flexible approach to working hours.
• MSMBLIC001 Licence to operate a standard boiler (highly beneficial, not required).
• Experience working with or in a maintenance team and performing basic maintenance duties (not required).
