The AI for Good Lab is hiring a Senior Research Scientist (ML, AI for Good Lab - Social Impact) with deep geospatial ML expertise to join our team in Strasbourg or Redmond. Our Lab leverages the power of data, our cloud technology, world-class talent to catalyze and inspire others to partner in tackling some of the world’s most pressing challenges. Over the past few years, the Lab has become a data and AI driven solution creator, storyteller and trusted advisor working closely with leaders across Microsoft, academia, NGOs, and all levels of government to deliver impact, data-driven solutions. Our mission is to be one of the top applied research and data visualization labs driving positive change and serve as a blueprint for others. Design and implement machine learning and AI solutions with a focus on geospatial analysis for applications ranging from food security, biodiversity, disaster response, to health, and human rights.
- Identify and curate diverse data sources for use in artificial intelligence and statistical modeling.

Collaborate closely with AI research scientists, data analysts, data engineers, business and project stakeholders and incorporate their expertise into your analytical solutions.

Partner with NGOs, academic institutions, and government agencies to help advance their efforts in addressing food security, environmental concerns, disaster resiliency, and health.

Represent the Lab’s capabilities and projects to internal and external leadership audiences, delivering compelling written and oral presentations to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Advance the research agenda for AI For Good initiatives: Prepare technical and scientific papers and presentations, and publish them internally and externally.

Required/Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, Geospatial Sciences, or other relevant field

Demonstrable experience with building complex AI & ML models
Additional or Preferred Qualifications

Experience building artificial neural networks

Interest for public good and collaborative development

3+ peer-reviewed journal publications or conference presentations (preferably on Computer Vision and/or Remote Sensing)

Demonstrable experience in delivering AI projects

Knowledge of PyTorch

Proficient written and oral communication skills

Experience working with satellite imagery

Experience working with a distributed team and with partners across disciplines
