The Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS), a cluster of NParks, safeguards the health and welfare of animals through comprehensive and integrated programmes and works closely with partners in the veterinary and animal-related industries to strengthen capacities and enhance competencies in animal health and welfare. It is the main touch-point on animal and veterinary matters in Singapore and the first responder for all animal-related feedback. It also conducts public education and engagement programmes to foster a society, where pet owners, communities, and animals co-exist in our City in Nature.
[What you will be working on]
We are looking for a qualified research staff to develop and manage research projects in community animals and wildlife.
Key duties include the following:
Development, management and reporting of research and data projects on community animals which include free roaming cats and dogs.
Support wildlife management projects and coordinate with other departments and research partners to ensure smooth progression of projects.
Conducting research projects to estimate and monitor free roaming dog and cat population abundance and demographics, and compare methods in administering oral vaccines to free roaming dogs
Performing data analysis
Using business intelligence tools such as Power BI or Qlik Sense to build dashboards, visualise data, generate reports and enhance operations
[What we are looking for]
Master's Degree or Degree in ecology or related field
Relevant research experience which includes population monitoring and animal behavioural ecology. Publications in some of these fields will be advantageous
Practical experience in conducting field surveys of mammals is preferred. These include survey methods for censusing, camera trapping and behavioural observations
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, as the role involves collaborations across various research groups, and key stakeholders in the public, private and academic sectors
Demonstrated ability to clearly frame research questions, design studies and implement analyses.
Knowledge of R Programming and Geographic Information System (GIS) software is preferred.
Prior experience with data visualisation, reporting and analytics platforms such as Power BI, Qlik Sense or similar tools is preferred
Experienced or comfortable in interacting with free roaming dogs and cats
