The Seniors Wellness Facilitator is responsible for planning, scheduling, and implementing a variety of social, recreational, and educational programs for adults aged 55 and older. This role involves leading fitness activities, welcoming participants, and supporting new members with registration. The facilitator works closely with the Caledon Meals on Wheels (CMOW) team, including volunteers, to ensure the smooth execution of all programs. Other duties may be assigned as required.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Program Development and Implementation:

  • Develop wellness programs tailored to the diverse needs of senior program participants, including physical fitness, mental stimulation, social interaction, and holistic health initiatives.
  • Lead and facilitate various wellness activities, ensuring a balanced and engaging program roster that promotes overall well-being.

Client Engagement:

  • Establish and nurture positive, trusting relationships with clients to understand and meet their individual needs and preferences, fostering a supportive and inclusive community.
  • Provide group facilitation and individualized support, addressing specific wellness goals and challenges of clients.

Community Outreach and Partnerships:

  • Collaborate with team members, local organizations and community groups to enhance program offerings.
  • Assist in promoting Caledon Meals on Wheels' wellness programs through community events, social media, and other channels.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate records of program activities, client interactions, and volunteer involvement.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation Leadership, Social Work, Gerontology, Health Promotion, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar role, preferably working with individuals 55+.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate clients and volunteers.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement fitness programs. Personal experience in fitness/sports is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of community resources and services available to seniors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
  • Valid driver's licence and access to reliable transportation.

Working Conditions

  • Moderate to High Physical Activity: The role involves moderate to high physical activity, including setting up and leading fitness classes, transporting equipment, and participating in wellness activities.
  • Mobility: Frequent movement between different locations is required, necessitating a level of physical fitness and mobility.
  • High Emotional Engagement: Working with senior citizens and vulnerable adults can be emotionally demanding, requiring a high degree of empathy, patience, and emotional resilience.
  • Client Interaction: Frequent interaction with clients, some of whom may have complex health or social needs, requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage challenging situations with compassion.
