About the Role:
Portmarnock Community School’s Adult Education Department is seeking an enthusiastic, skilled, and patient Sewing Tutor to deliver our evening hobby course for the upcoming Autumn 2026 term. This practical course is designed for adult beginners and improvers looking to master sewing machine basics, pattern reading, clothing alterations, and simple garment creation in a relaxed, social community setting.

Schedule & Details:

• Term Dates: Starts Thursday 24th September 2026 (Runs for 10 weeks, excluding the October mid-term break).
• Class Times: Thursdays, 6:45pm – 8:45pm (2 hours contact time per week).

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver weekly, hands-on instruction covering sewing machine setup, fabric selection, cutting, stitching techniques, and simple alterations.
• Adapt teaching methods to support a mixed-ability classroom (absolute beginners to basic improvers).
• Maintain a safe, organized, and encouraging studio environment.
• Advise students on selecting appropriate projects and sourcing material.

Requirements & Experience:

• Strong expertise in sewing, dressmaking, textile design, or garment alterations.
• Previous experience teaching, demonstrating, or running workshops (ideally with adults) is highly desirable.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to troubleshoot basic domestic sewing machine issues during class.

Please Note:
As this is an evening adult education hobby course, the contract is subject to viable enrollment numbers. The position will proceed only if sufficient student registrations are achieved to run the course.
