Shop Manager

Hamilton East

Permanent, Full-Time (37.5 hours per week)

About the role – Kōrero mō te tūranga

Our Red Cross Shop in Hamilton East might be small, but it’s bursting with personality—and pre-loved treasures! We’re on the hunt for a fashion-savvy superstar to take the reins and lead the charge in creating an awesome, welcoming vibe for everyone who walks through our door.

You’ll be driving sales and hitting targets, but in a way that feels natural and fun—not pushy. Confidence is key here, and having strong retail experience definitely helps!

Just as important, you’ll be working closely with our amazing volunteers. That means leading with kindness, supporting with patience, and being flexible when things change (because let’s be real, they often do). If you're someone who stays calm under pressure and genuinely enjoys working with people, this could be a great fit.

This role is fast paced, so bring your energy and love for all things fashion to our unique boutique!

In this role you will:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the shop, including presentation, stock-sorting, pricing and opening and closing procedures
  • Create a welcoming, stylish shopping experience for customers
  • Drive sales by engaging customers, identifying needs, and recommending products to meet targets
  • Promote and manage incoming donations to maintain an exceptional product range.
  • Lead a team of Assistant Managers, Volunteers and support an effective and collaborative team environment, while maintaining shop rosters to ensure effective stop operations
  • Recruit, train and retain shop employees with the support of the Retail Regional Manager
  • Foster a positive team culture by providing training and development opportunities to enhance customer service and skills.
  • Provide superior customer service and lead by example, maintaining professionalism and ensuring all employees and volunteers reflect the New Zealand Red Cross values
  • Provide monthly reports on shop performance, sales trends, donations, and volunteer activities to the Retail Regional Manager

Who are we looking for? – Mā‎ wai te mahi nei?

To be successful you will have:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of retail operations, stock management, sales drivers, administration, banking and cash handling
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in a management role, preferably in retail or a customer service-orientated role,
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Enthusiasm for sustainable fashion and community impact coupled with demonstrated knowledge of clothing brands
  • Exceptional customer service skills, including the ability to manage difficult situations and de-escalate conflicts effectively.
  • Knowledge of ensuring all goods are priced within the Price Guidelines
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including at least one weekend day as required
