Location: Residential Construction Site
Reporting To: Site Engineer / Project Manager / Crane Operator

Role Summary

The Tower Crane Signal Man is responsible for safe and accurate communication between the crane operator and ground crew, ensuring proper lifting, movement, and placement of materials during construction activities.

Key Responsibilities1. Crane Operation Coordination

• Guide tower crane operator using standard hand signals / walkie-talkie communication
• Ensure safe lifting, shifting, and lowering of materials like:
• Steel reinforcement (rebar bundles)
• Shuttering materials
• Concrete buckets
• Blocks, bricks, and finishing materials

2. Load Handling & Safety

• Verify load weight, balance, and proper rigging before lifting
• Ensure correct slings, hooks, and lifting gear are used
• Prevent overloading and unsafe lifting practices

3. Site Safety Control

• Maintain clear communication to avoid accidents and collisions
• Ensure no workers are under suspended loads
• Monitor surroundings for:
• Obstructions
• Power lines
• Nearby structures

4. Positioning & Placement

• Guide crane operator for accurate placement of materials at required locations
• Assist in tight space operations (high-rise residential floors)

5. Coordination with Site Team

• Work closely with:
• Site Engineers
• Supervisors
• Riggers
• Crane Operator
• Follow daily lifting plans and site instructions

6. Equipment Check

• Inspect basic lifting tools like:
• Slings
• Shackles
• Hooks
• Report any damage or unsafe equipment immediately

Skills Required

• Knowledge of standard crane hand signals
• Basic understanding of construction materials & lifting methods
• Strong attention to safety
• Good communication skills (verbal + signaling)
• Ability to work at heights and in high-risk environments

Qualifications

• Minimum: 10th Pass (preferred)
• Certification in:
• Crane signaling / rigging (preferred but not mandatory)
• Experience:
• 2–5 years in construction (high-rise residential preferred)

Safety Responsibilities

• Strictly follow site safety protocols
• Use PPE:
• Helmet
• Safety shoes
• Reflective jacket
• Gloves
• Stop work immediately if any unsafe condition is observed

Working Conditions

• Outdoor construction environment
• May require working at heights and long hours
• Exposure to dust, noise, and weather conditions

Typical Salary Range

• ₹15,000 – ₹25,000 per month (depending on experience and city)

• Effective communication with crane operator
• Compliance with safety standards
