The job
As Silo Supervisor at our Prairie Malt Plant, you are responsible for overseeing the daily operations of grain and malt silos, ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality handling of raw materials. This role plays a critical part in maintaining food safety compliance, optimizing silo performance, and supporting uninterrupted production and delivery processes. The Silo Supervisor leads a team of silo operators and coordinates closely with production, logistics, and quality assurance teams.
Key Responsibilities:
· Grain & Malt Handling - Ensure proper receipt, storage, and transfer of grain and malt in accordance with food safety protocols and internal quality standards.
· Food Safety & Quality Compliance - Maintain strict adherence to HACCP, GMP, and other relevant food safety regulations. Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance.
· Blending Accuracy - Oversee and verify the accuracy of grain and malt blending processes to meet production specifications and quality targets.
· Silo Level Management - Monitor and maintain optimal silo levels to support continuous production and timely deliveries. Coordinate with logistics and production planning teams to forecast material needs.
· Operational Efficiency - Identify and implement process improvements to enhance silo operations, reduce downtime, and minimize waste.
· Team Leadership - Supervise, train, and develop silo staff to ensure high performance, safety awareness, and operational excellence. Schedule shifts and assign tasks effectively.
· Maintenance Coordination - Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure timely servicing and repair of silo equipment and systems.
· Reporting & Documentation - Maintain accurate records of inventory levels, blending logs, safety checks, and incident reports. Provide regular updates to management.
Your profile
· Proven experience in silo operations, grain handling, or a related field (5+ years preferred)
· Strong understanding of food safety standards and quality control procedures
· Leadership experience with the ability to train and motivate teams, experience in a unionized setting is an asset
· Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
· Proficiency in using silo monitoring systems and inventory management tools
· Strong communication skills and attention to detail
· Fluent in spoken and written English.
· Must be able to work in environments with variable temperatures, including partial outdoor work and dusty conditions
· Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
· Requires Near/Far, Depth and Colour vision
