Job Description

The Division of Sidewalk & Inspection Management (SIM) is responsible for maintaining the city's 12,760 miles of sidewalks and approximately 162,000 pedestrian ramps. SIM is tasked with sustaining a comprehensive inspection, pedestrian ramp and sidewalk program that ensures accessibility of pedestrian ramps, streets, and sidewalks.
The Citywide Concrete Program inspects curb and sidewalk complaints from the public, identifying damaged or missing sidewalk & curbs that are pedestrian & vehicular hazards and can cause severe flooding. Citywide Concrete Unit (CWC) supports the agency s goal to enhance, rehabilitate, and maintain the City s infrastructure by acting as the agency s primary construction unit. We employ dedicated engineers, managers, support staff, laborers and adopt cost-savings and efficiency, while maintaining the highest standards of excellence and service to safety and quality.
Grant Coordinator will be assigned to the construction support team for the in-house crews. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following: meet with our Grants unit for federal clauses/boilerplates, prepare federal and state funded Street Improvement Projects (SIP) estimates & actual costs, submitting certification of completed Consolidated Local Steets & Highways Improvement Programs (CHIPS) claims to Traffic Planning & Management (TP&M) and providing funding updates; manage and develop spreadsheets and annual reports related to Grants and reimbursement processing; Data entry into in-house COM database related to CHIPS, Federal Grants, and IFA projects with regards to PS & OTPS costs, based on gang sheets, community complaints & subsequent surveys done daily; research pedestrian ramp construction and complaints using multiple databases, maintaining logs of correspondence and responding to inquiries from Borough Commissioners, elected officials, and the public; Update and create training for on-board crews emphasizing Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) and community relations with residents; attend meetings with stakeholders and assist walk-in constituents with project-related inquiries

Minimum Qualifications
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
Preferred Skills
Preference will be given to candidates with strong Excel skills knowledge about DOT’s reimbursement process and be detail oriented. The selected candidate may be required to visit various DOT locations to gather and audit information related to the reimbursement process.

Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
