Primary Responsibility

Use your carpentry and renovation expertise to lead the safe, efficient execution of all site activities, ensuring the successful completion of every project with excellence. Conducting yourself professionally while aligning yourself with company initiatives, mission, and values, and fostering a culture of care and respect within the team.

Reporting to: Project Manager

Duties

- Apply your comprehensive renovation knowledge and hands-on experience to manage and complete all phases of renovation projects, ensuring they meet high-quality standards from inception to completion.

- Support the project manager to lighten their site workload through general site leadership, preparing material lists, providing site updates, coordinating inspector/engineering meetings, and as requested by the project manager.

- Understand, respect, and enable one line of communication to the project manager.

- Oversee project sites under project manager guidance, providing hands-on leadership in all construction activities.

- Regularly assess on-site requirements and provide input to the project manager for materials, labour, and tool needs to maintain project efficiency.

- Oversee and collaborate with sub-contractors, aligning project goals and ensuring compliance with project specifications.

- Note site challenges and critical decisions and formulate possible solutions for project manager to maintain project progress.

- Effectively delegate tasks and responsibilities to site staff, ensuring a well-organized workflow in line with project manager’s objectives.

- Ensure strict compliance with project drawings, scope of work, and established timelines, guaranteeing the accuracy and quality of work performed by the project team.

- Assist in cost control, making sure the project stays as efficient as possible.

- Strictly adhere to company policies and procedures while actively participating in the continuous improvement of productivity, construction systems, and customer service standards.

- Maintain high standards of workmanship and quality throughout the project, conducting regular inspections, and addressing issues promptly.

- Maintain the organization of provided project documentation, including drawings, specifications, and project reports.

- Provide daily updates to the project manager, including photos and videos, as required.

- Manage and assess risks, maintaining a safe, clean, secure, and healthy work environment by enforcing safety standards, following procedures, and ensuring compliance with legal regulations.

- Ensure project compliance with building codes, regulations, and industry standards.

- Train, lead and encourage learning co-workers when working as a team on site.

- Pursue personal development by staying updated on industry best practices and emerging construction standards by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications.

- Direct potential leads for new work to Bay Point Sales.

- Uphold and enhance the reputation of the company with every action you take.

Skills

- Carpentry expertise: Proficiency in carpentry skills, encompassing a wide range of tasks from framing to finishing.

- Construction and renovation skills: Competence in construction and renovation tasks such as drywall installation, flooring, tiling, plumbing, concrete work and more.

- Tool proficiency: Mastery of a wide range of hand and power tools used in renovation and construction, ensuring safe and efficient operation.

- Material assessment: Skill in assessing on-site material, labour, and tool requirements for projects.

- Construction management: Strong knowledge of construction management principles and practices.

- Blueprint reading: The ability to interpret and work from construction drawings and blueprints.

- Math proficiency: Strong mathematical skills for accurate measurements, calculations, and cost assessments in construction projects.

- Construction software: Proficiency in construction software for project management and reporting.

Qualifications

- Driver’s licence: Valid G driver’s licence

- Education: High school graduate. Completion of a trade apprenticeship program an asset.

- Certificates: Active certifications are an asset.

- Construction experience: Twelve years previous experience in construction and renovations for residential and commercial work

- Physical fitness: Ability to lift and manipulate objects of up to 75 lbs for 150 ft is required. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and throughout the seasons. Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.

- Tools: Must have your own minor hand tools suitable for the role.
