Position Summary
We're seeking an experienced Metal Fabricator to join our skilled production team. This position is perfect for a craftsperson with 3-5 years of hands-on metalworking experience who takes pride in precision work and problem-solving. You'll work independently on diverse lighting fixture projects, from custom architectural pieces to production runs, using your expertise in pipe fabrication and metal forming techniques. This role offers growth opportunities beyond basic assembly work while maintaining the hands-on craftsmanship that drives our success.
Key Responsibilities
Metal Fabrication & Assembly
- Cut, thread, tap, and bend various pipes and metal components to precise specifications using hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment
- Operate metal spinning equipment to create reflector housings and decorative components for our signature RLM lighting products
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and engineering specifications to fabricate custom lighting fixtures
- Assemble complete lighting fixtures including metal housings, glass components, electrical elements, and mounting hardware
Quality & Problem-Solving
- Improvise solutions to unique fabrication challenges while maintaining quality standards and project timelines
- Perform quality inspections throughout the fabrication process, ensuring all products meet our stringent standards before shipping
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and share insights with the team
- Troubleshoot assembly issues and implement corrective actions independently
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with our engineering team on custom lighting projects, providing hands-on expertise to bring designs to life
- Assist in training newer team members on proper techniques and safety procedures
- Communicate effectively with supervisors about project status and material needs
- Contribute to our culture of continuous improvement and innovation
Required Qualifications
Experience & Skills
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience in metal fabrication, manufacturing, or related field
- Proficiency in pipe cutting, threading, tapping, and bending operations
- Experience with metal spinning operations or willingness to learn this specialized skill
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work instructions
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and mechanical aptitude
- Basic mathematical skills for measurements, calculations, and material estimation
Technical Competencies
- Experience with hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment
- Knowledge of different metal properties and fabrication techniques
- Understanding of quality control principles and measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.)
- Ability to work with various materials including aluminum, steel, and brass
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods and work in various positions
- Capability to lift and maneuver materials and fixtures up to 50 pounds
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for precision work
- Visual acuity to inspect detailed work and read technical documents
Preferred Qualifications
- Some experience with CNC equipment (operation, not programming)
- Vocational or technical school training in metalworking or related field
- Experience in lighting, electrical, or precision manufacturing industries
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles
- Exposure to metal spinning is a plus
