What this role is all about:
Beem Credit Union is looking for a Small Business Account Manager to oversee a portfolio of small business accounts, focusing on commercial and agricultural lending.. The role involves conducting annual assessments of account risk and profitability, monitoring and addressing problem accounts, and developing strategies to mitigate risk. Responsibilities include evaluating and approving small business loan applications within set limits, ensuring clients are provided with appropriate banking products, and promoting additional financial services.
The incumbent will handle consumer credit applications, such as mortgages, personal loans, and credit cards, and make recommendations for loans that exceed your authority. You will be expected to offer a full range of banking services, including deposit products and basic estate account management.
The role requires building and nurturing relationships with clients, generating referrals through networking, and collaborating with collection staff. Additionally, you will support the department supervisor by training and mentoring junior team members to foster a knowledgeable and cohesive team.
This role will be based out of the Grand Forks Branch located in Grand Forks, British Columbia.
What you’ll do:
- Interview members to assess their needs and align them with Credit Union products and services.
- Analyze and approve small business and personal credit applications based on sound lending principles and delegated authority.
- Develop and strengthen relationships with members, including cross-selling retail products and services.
- Provide advice and services to members in-person, on-site, or through other channels, including outside regular business hours.
- Conduct annual and periodic reviews of small business credits and documentation, ensuring compliance with Credit Union policies and current product pricing guidelines.
- Ensure loan portfolio profitability by applying appropriate loan rates and service charges, negotiating terms, and balancing member and Credit Union needs.
- Monitor margined accounts and take necessary actions.
- Oversee the preparation and execution of loan documentation, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and Credit Union standards.
- Identify and promote opportunities for services and referrals to the wealth management division.
- Collaborate with collection personnel to manage delinquent commercial credits through calls, interviews, and site visits.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
A little about your qualifications:
- Secondary School diploma plus completion of, or enrollment in the CU Source Commercial Lender Accreditation Program (all required and recommended courses)
- A minimum 3 years’ experience as qualified consumer/personal lender in a recognized financial institution preferably a Credit Union
- Working knowledge of Credit Union demand, deposit products and granting of consumer credit
- Familiarity with wealth management products and services
- Demonstrated proficiency with office software applications such as word processing and spread sheets
- Demonstrated proficiency working in a team environment with shared duties and responsibilities
- Proven problem solving and time management skills with a demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize, meet deadlines and exercise sound judgement
- Demonstrated proficiency in providing professional, friendly and knowledgeable service to members
- Candidates with an equivalent combination of education, experience and skills may be considered
