Job Summary
We are seeking dedicated and hardworking individuals to join our team as Snow Shovelers. This position requires physically demanding work in cold, snowy, and icy conditions, ensuring that all areas are safely accessible for pedestrians, vehicles, and other users. The Snow Shoveler will be required to use snow shovels, salt spreaders, and other basic snow removal tools to effectively clear snow and ice while maintaining safety and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Snow Removal:
- Shovel snow from sidewalks, driveways, walkways, parking lots, and other designated areas.
- Remove snow buildup from entrances, exits, and pathways to ensure safe passage for pedestrians and vehicles.
- Clear snow from around vehicles, curbs, or other obstacles that may obstruct traffic or pedestrian access.
- Use manual snow shovels or smaller snow removal tools to effectively clear snow in residential or commercial areas.
Ice Management:
- Apply salt, sand, or other de-icing materials to walkways, driveways, and parking lots to prevent ice formation.
- Monitor areas for ice accumulation and take proactive steps to minimize hazardous conditions.
Equipment Handling:
- Use snow shovels, push brooms, and other hand tools to clear snow efficiently.
- Operate small snow blowers or salt spreaders as required (if applicable).
- Ensure that snow removal tools and equipment are in good working condition and report any damages or malfunctions.
Safety and Cleanliness:
- Maintain a high level of safety while shoveling, particularly in icy or wet conditions.
- Follow safety protocols to avoid injury, including proper lifting techniques and maintaining awareness of surroundings.
- Ensure that all cleared areas are free of debris, and snow is appropriately piled or removed to avoid safety hazards.
- Follow all company and safety regulations, ensuring that snow removal is performed without creating additional hazards.
Communication and Coordination:
- Work closely with other snow removal team members like snow plow drivers and loader operators to ensure timely and efficient snow removal operations.
- Communicate any issues, such as areas that need more attention or potential hazards, to supervisors.
- Follow instructions from the supervisor regarding specific areas to focus on or any changes to the snow removal schedule.
Weather Monitoring and Readiness:
- Be prepared to work during and after snowstorms, which may require early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.
- Respond to snow events and ensure that all assigned areas are cleared of snow and ice promptly.
Post-Storm Clean-Up:
- Assist in clearing up any residual snow or ice after a snowstorm ends, ensuring walkways and driving areas are safe and accessible.
- Help with snow removal from areas where snow accumulation is a concern (e.g., near building entrances or high-traffic zones).
Qualifications:
Experience:
- Previous experience with snow removal or general labor is preferred but not required.
- Experience working in outdoor or winter conditions is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including shoveling snow for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to lift and move heavy snow or ice, often in cold or wet conditions.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for long periods, and to safely lift heavy objects as required.
Skills:
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- Ability to work efficiently in cold, snowy, and sometimes hazardous conditions.
- Good communication skills for reporting progress and coordinating with team members.
- Basic understanding of snow removal tools and equipment.
Availability:
- Must be available to work irregular hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on snow events.
- Flexibility to work overtime as needed during snowstorms.
Preferred Skills:
- Previous experience with snow shoveling, snow removal, or groundskeeping.
- Ability to operate small snow blowers or other manual snow removal equipment.
- Knowledge of safe snow shoveling practices and the use of de-icing materials.
Working Conditions:
- Seasonal Role: This position is typically seasonal, running during the winter months (usually from [month] to [month]).
- Hours: Hours will vary depending on snowstorm intensity and timing, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Environment: The job will be performed outdoors in cold, snowy, and icy conditions. Extended exposure to cold temperatures and wet conditions is expected.
