Category Insights & Sourcing Lead
Role Summary

We are looking for a sharp, analytical, commercially minded person who can find what Indian consumers want but can't easily get, and then source it. You will use data, market research and AI tools to spot gaps in Indian categories, validate demand and margins, and find, vet and negotiate with vendors in India and overseas (China, Vietnam, Turkey, the UAE, Europe and elsewhere). You own the journey from "there's a gap here" to "the first container lands with a healthy margin."

Key Responsibilities

1. Market gap discovery

Mine marketplaces (Amazon.in, Flipkart, Nykaa, Meesho, Quick Commerce), Google Trends, social platforms, reviews and search data to find unmet needs.
Analyse reviews, ratings, pricing bands, seller density and competitor weaknesses to score opportunities.
Use AI tools (LLMs, scraping and analytics tools, Helium 10 / Jungle Scout-type tools, Keepa, SimilarWeb) to speed up research and spot patterns.
Build opportunity scorecards covering demand, competition, margin, regulatory complexity, logistics and capital needed.

2. Product validation

Estimate market size, landed cost, selling price, contribution margin and break-even.
Run low-cost validation (pre-orders, samples, ad tests, landing pages) before committing to inventory.
Check compliance early (BIS, CDSCO, FSSAI, WPC, EPR, import restrictions, HSN and duty classification).

3. Vendor sourcing, India and overseas

Identify and shortlist manufacturers and suppliers via Alibaba, IndiaMART, TradeIndia, trade fairs, sourcing agents and direct outreach.
Vet vendors on capability, quality systems, certifications, MOQ, lead time, capacity and financial stability.
Run sample cycles, quality checks and factory audits, directly or through third-party inspectors.
Negotiate price, MOQ, payment terms, exclusivity and quality clauses.

4. Commercial and supply chain coordination

Work out landed cost: FOB, freight, duties, GST, clearing, warehousing.
Work with logistics partners, CHAs and freight forwarders on imports.
Maintain a vendor database with scorecards (quality, delivery, cost, responsiveness).
Hand products over to the brand, marketing and operations teams with a complete product dossier.

5. Reporting

Present weekly pipeline updates and a monthly opportunity report to leadership.
Track post-launch performance and feed it back into the next sourcing decisions.
