Brooklyn RISE, a growing K-8 charter school in Brooklyn, invites passionate and committed educators to apply to the position of Special Education Coordinator. Brooklyn RISE is a small school school of 380 K-7 students. We are looking for high capacity, energetic, detail oriented, and dedicated individuals to join our Team.
Job Summary
The Special Education Coordinator is a full-time position responsible for supporting the academic needs of students needing additional services, including students with IEPs, students with 504 plans, and students identified as English Language Learners. Responsibilities include overseeing the pre-referral and referral process of special education services. This includes overseeing the creation of, and execution of, IEPs and 504 plans for students with special needs, and overseeing our testing, support systems, and academic accommodations for diverse learners at our school. The Special Education Coordinator reports directly to our Director of Inclusive Learning.
Essential Functions
- Create and maintain a system for monitoring compliance with all federal and state rules and policies regarding special education and English Language services.
- Work closely with the district Committee for Special Education (CSE) to ensure that the appropriate supports are put in place for students with disabilities and that annual IEP meetings are scheduled.
- Work closely with the CSE on the facilitation of evaluations and reevaluations for specialized services.
- Serve as the point of contact for all matters involving special education due process.
- Facilitate professional development sessions for general education and special education teachers on accommodations and modifications for students with IEPs, ELLs, and students with 504 Plans.
- Assist with interviewing special education teachers and related service professionals.
- Serve as the point of contact for all specialized services provided by external professionals.
- Manage the development and evaluation of special education teachers.
- Create and execute lessons for small groups of students that meet their IEP goals.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to create and execute lessons that support all students, including those with IEPs or 504 plans.
- Manage family relationships for students on your case load receiving special education services.
- Consistently analyze student data and engage in self-reflection on practices
- Complete all duties, posts and tasks as assigned

Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum two years of experience working with Special Education students required.
- New York State Special Education Certification required.
- Track record of supporting students with diverse learning needs in achieving high levels of growth (academic & behavioral)
- Demonstrated ability to work well in a team, especially with parents and community members.
- Demonstrated track record of managing and coaching adults to higher levels of performance.
- Ambition and desire to grow as a leader
