About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Specialty Nurse to join our team. The main function of this role is to provide extended nursing practice functions of neonatal resuscitation and advanced airway management in birthing, obstetric theatre areas, maternity and SCBU, or any site of a neonatal emergency. You will also undertake assessment of babies with complex needs, recommend and initiate treatment options in accordance with policy or clinical pathways, and in discussion with paediatricians. This is a senior nursing role, so you will provide clinical leadership and role model best practice, as well as take responsibility for the coordination of the unit.

The Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at North Shore Hospital is a 12 bed level 2 neonatal unit, providing care for babies born as early as 32 weeks, and as small as 1500g. Our SCBU team is dedicated to providing a nurturing and supportive learning environment. We pride ourselves on our team culture and values, and on the excellent nursing care we provide in partnership to infants and their families. We value the contribution that nurses make and support their professional growth and development.

Health New Zealand Waitematā provides health services to approximately 650,000 residents of the North Shore, Waitakere, and Rodney areas. It has the largest population of any district health area.

About you

To be eligible for this role, you will have the following qualifications and experience:

  • Registered Nurse with a current New Zealand Annual Practicing Certificate
  • Post Graduate Certificate or Diploma in appropriate specialty practice papers (preferably neonatal nursing)
  • Current NLS Certification
  • Recent Level 4 Neonatal experience is essential
