Job Overview:

The Referral Coordinator plays a critical role in the pharmacy by managing patient referrals and ensuring seamless communication between patients, healthcare providers, and nursing companies. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with a strong understanding of medical terminology and billing practices. The ideal candidate will be skilled in handling medical records, verifying insurance information, and be knowledgeable and/or willing to learn aspects of the infusion services landscape.

Duties:

  • Manage incoming referrals from specialists and other healthcare providers.
  • Work with corporate intake specialists to verify insurance eligibility/coverage and complete benefits investigations.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, healthcare providers, team members, nursing providers, and insurance companies to provide a seamless intake experience, from referral to start of care.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the infusion landscape, including current medications, new to market medications, reimbursement trends, formulary requirements, etc.
  • Work closely with marketing team in regards to referral source communications.
  • Work closely with prior authorization team in regards to timely insurance approvals.
  • Work with drug manufacturing companies to enroll patients into assistance programs.

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology and billing practices.
  • Experience with insurance verification procedures.
  • Excellent organization skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Strong and professional communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interaction with patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as with a team, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Prior experience in infusion pharmacy or similar medical office preferred.
  • Certification with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board required within 90 days of hire.
