Position: Sports Turf Technician II
Department: Baseball Operations
Location: Phoenix, AZ
Status: Hourly; Non-Exempt
Position Summary:
The San Francisco Giants Baseball Club seek to add the role of Sport Turf Technician II to join the Baseball Operations department. This position will maintain playing surfaces consistent with the major league level to help the Giants develop the next generation of talent. The ideal candidate will have a strong ability to provide customer service in the set up and breakdown of on field workouts, while balancing the day to day maintenance tasks to keep our playing surfaces and landscape in top condition.
Position Responsibilities:
- You seek to maintain playing fields that meet or exceed MLB standards
- You see the details when it comes to common areas and landscape standards consistent with professional sports facilities.
- You’re capable of reporting findings in the field as it relates to turf stress, disease, irrigation and equipment issues.
- You have experience in the safe and competent operation of turf related equipment and hand tools.
- Willingness to work as a team in setting surfaces for games/batting practices/workouts, but also capable of thriving independently.
- Skilled in technical aspects of turfgrass management and baseball field maintenance such as fertilizer application and mound/plate/infield skin maintenance.
- You have availability to work a schedule around the team’s schedule (i.e. evenings, weekends, holidays as required).
Skills and Qualifications:
- 2 years minimum field maintenance experience at a baseball/athletic facility.
- Valid Arizona Driver License.
- Ability to develop effective and collaborative working relationship.
- Ability to work extended hours during spring training. Nights, weekends and holidays as required.
- Good health with the ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to walk or stand for long periods of time and work in extreme heat and or harsh conditions.
- Must have or obtain Arizona Pesticide Applicators license within 6 months of hire date.
