Structural Design Checker (Compressor Packages)
Additional Compensation: Quarterly Performance Bonus
Position Summary
The Structural Design Checker is responsible for reviewing and validating structural designs, drawings, and 3D models for compressor skid packages and related equipment. This role ensures accuracy, code compliance, and constructability while supporting cross-functional coordination across engineering disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
- Review structural drawings, 3D models, and calculation packages for compressor skids, pedestals, pipe supports, platforms, stairs, ladders, and equipment support structures
- Verify compliance with applicable codes and standards (AISC, API, ASCE, and client specifications)
- Ensure designs account for dynamic loads, vibration, rotating equipment, thermal expansion, and transportation/installation conditions
- Validate steel member sizing, connection details, baseplates, anchor bolt layouts, and lifting/rigging points
- Confirm alignment between structural calculations, design intent, and fabrication drawings
- Identify discrepancies, missing information, or constructability concerns and provide clear feedback to engineering and design teams
- Coordinate with piping, electrical, and instrumentation teams to resolve interface and integration issues
- Review vendor drawings (compressors, vessels, coolers, scrubbers, pulsation bottles, etc.) for structural impact
- Participate in 3D model reviews to ensure compliance with modularization and transport requirements
- Maintain structural checking standards, document control practices, and quality procedures
- Mentor junior designers and contribute to continuous improvement of checking processes
Qualifications
- 10+ years of structural design and/or checking experience, preferably in oil & gas, gas compression, or modular equipment packages
- Strong knowledge of skid design, compressor foundations, and rotating equipment support requirements
- Solid understanding of dynamic loading and structural behavior
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, CadWorx, Navisworks, or similar tools
- Working knowledge of AISC, API, ASCE, and related industry standards
- High attention to detail with the ability to identify inconsistencies and errors
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
- Experience with modular fabrication, shop detailing, and field installation practices
Physical Requirements
This role may involve both office and shop environments and requires occasional physical activity.
- Ability to bend, squat, climb, stoop, twist, and reach as needed
- Prolonged periods of sitting and computer use
- Ability to lift and carry objects up to 10 pounds
- May be required to work at heights up to 25 feet
- Must comply with all OSHA regulations and wear required PPE in shop environments
Pay: $100,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
