POSITION SUMMARY
The Student Management Assistant (SMA) is responsible and accountable for supporting the Student Management Coordinator (SMC) and Deputy Student Management Coordinator(s) (DSMC) in working with students and teachers and to carry out other duties as assigned by the SMC and DSMC. The Student Management Assistant establishes, maintains, and monitors a disciplined environment conducive to learning. The Student Management Assistant ensures the schools and SABIS®’ image, brand, philosophy, systems, policies, and procedures are properly implemented and observed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Position duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Student Management Support:
- Oversees students in all areas within the school building and grounds as assigned;
- Collects behavioral information and enters it in the SABIS® System of Student Management (SSMS);
- Coordinates all behavioral issues with the SMC and the DSMC;
- Models calm behavior. Fostering a calm attitude with students is to engage in this behavior yourself;
- Supports and provides accommodations in class to lessen frustration and increase academic confidence in an academically-frustrated student;
- Intervenes early by keeping a close eye on student(s) and if inappropriate behavior seems imminent, try to distract the student(s) by changing the activity or taking the student(s) aside and speak to a different topic.
Student Support:
- Effectively communicates with students (meets, listens, seeks to understand, convinces);
- Effectively motivates, encourages, and inspires students to meet the school’s standards of behavior;
- Sets high expectations and standards of responsibility;
- Encourages self-discipline;
- Offers guidance and uses praise and reprimand appropriately;
- Involves students in developing their skills in order to become a positive behavior role model for other students to emulate.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (continued)
Prevention:
- Clearly communicates behavior expectations to students in coordination with the SMC/DSMC;
- Takes necessary preventative action to maintain a disciplined environment conducive to learning; Reports potential aggression to the SMC/DSMC;
- Coordinates with the SMC/DSMC to promote the Student Life Code of Honor throughout the school;
- Stays well-informed about current events and activities in the school.
Monitoring:
- Effectively utilizes school/SABIS® systems and tools to monitor student behavior in coordination with the SMC/DSMC;
- Consistently updates the SMC/DSMC in regards to student behavior, both in- and out-of-class; Effectively implements plans for in-school suspension.
Intervention:
- Effectively intervenes to reward positive behavior and discouraging inappropriate behavior, or teaches the appropriate behavior with follow-up to ensure change or correction in a behavior;
- Appropriately uses different types of intervention (reinforcement and/or reminders) in-line with school/SABIS® philosophy and policies to help maintain a disciplined environment within the school;
- Coordinates with the SMC and DSMC as needed.
Documentation:
- Effectively uses school/SABIS® systems and tools to document student behavior and to maintain students records and data in an accurate, confidential, and secure manner;
- Ensures appropriate records are retained of written communications with parents including any other student behavior-related documentation.
Internal Relationships:
- Works closely and effectively with the SMC, DSMC, students, School Director, and the SABIS®
Student Life Coordinator to maintain and monitor a discipline environment conducive to learning; Participates in staff development to improve skills necessary to work with students and staff; Requests support as needed.
Internal Reporting & Compliance:
- Maintains a professional SABIS® image;
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $27.00 per hour
