- Prime opportunity to join our VET Pathways and Engagement Team.
- Fixed Term position in a central Hawthorn location (until 31 Dec 2025).
- HEW6 level $90,433 - $97,505 + 17% Super.
The Student Success Coach plays a key role in supporting incoming and continuing students at Swinburne by identifying those who need additional assistance and developing tailored Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) in collaboration with them. By offering personalised advising, mentoring, and close monitoring of these plans, the coach aims to enhance student retention, course completion, and successful transitions into further education, training, or employment. The role involves working closely with teaching departments and connecting students to internal and external support services. Coaches are part of a team-based Community of Practice and report to the program lead within the Pathways and Engagement unit.
This position requires a motivated vocational education professional with experience in supporting diverse learners and offering course and pathway advice. Responsibilities include working across various Swinburne campuses, addressing barriers to student success, facilitating referrals, conducting mentoring sessions, and delivering workshops or presentations as needed. The role also contributes to broader projects, such as developing online transition resources and running orientation and support sessions for new students.
This is a fixed term contract until 31 Dec 2025, with a yearly renewal as a possibility.
About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below:
- Demonstrated experience in related work and study assistance including vocational assistance, study support, recruitment, career guidance and employment services
- Experience with high priority cohort would be desirable
- A proven record of managing customer enquiries and a demonstrated commitment to customer service including follow up and closure activities
- Highly developed verbal and written communication and demonstrated computer skills including the use of word processing, spreadsheets and database applications
- Demonstrated ability to engage and build trust with diverse cohorts and DET Community Services specified high priority groups (e.g. youth, migrants, unemployed, retrenched workers and/or apprentices)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders that include employers, educational institutions and community service providers
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to and work effectively in a team environment across a tertiary institution to achieve outcomes
- Demonstrate ability to meet deadlines without compromising close attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to exercise substantial initiative and sound judgement and to work independently to meet position objectives consistent with the University’s
- Experience in video production and CANVAS resource development
Qualifications
A post graduate degree or vocational qualification in Career Counselling, Community Services, Vocational Training and Assessment with subsequent relevant experience; extensive experience and specialist expertise or broad knowledge or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or knowledge of the VET sector.
