We are currently seeking Casual Substitute Childcare Providers to support our licensed childcare programs. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy working with children, have a flexible schedule, and want to make a positive impact in their community.
Position Summary
As a Substitute Childcare Provider, you will step into classrooms as needed to support our childcare team. You will help create a safe, engaging, and supportive environment where children can learn, play, and thrive. Substitute staff may work with infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-aged children depending on program needs.
Responsibilities
- Provide a safe, caring, and inclusive environment for all children.
- Supervise children during indoor and outdoor play, meals, rest periods, and daily routines.
- Support the implementation of age-appropriate activities that encourage learning, creativity, and development.
- Build positive relationships with children, families, and fellow staff members.
- Follow YMCA policies, licensing regulations, and health and safety procedures.
- Support children of all abilities and promote an inclusive environment.
- Assist with classroom setup, cleaning, and daily program operations as required.
- Maintain professional communication with families and colleagues.
Qualifications
- Experience working with children in a childcare, educational, recreational, or related setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, adaptable, and able to respond to short-notice shifts when available.
- Genuine passion for supporting children's growth and well-being.
Preferred Qualifications
- Nova Scotia Early Childhood Education (ECE) Classification.
- Current First Aid and CPR-C Certification.
- Experience working in licensed childcare settings.
- Training or experience supporting children with diverse needs.

Compensation
$17.86 - $32.19 per hour
Compensation is based on qualifications, experience, and Nova Scotia ECE Classification in accordance with the YMCA wage scale.
Additional Information
- This is a casual, on-call substitute position with no guaranteed hours.
- Successful candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- A Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check are required.
