Company Overview
The Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre (GBCSC) is a not-for-profit, community-focused organization whose mission is to provide emotional, physical, social, spiritual support, education and information as a complement to the medical system for people affected by cancer. With a growing membership base of close to two hundred individuals living in a large geographical area, we strive to deliver programs and services that meet the diverse needs of our community at every point throughout their cancer journey. We are funded almost entirely through grants, and the generosity of donors.
Position Overview
The Events Coordinator will serve as an important part of the GBCSC team and will play an integral role in facilitating the centre’s most important annual fundraising event, The Georgian Bay Cycle for Hope, along with additional fundraising initiatives at our Collingwood location. This role will also be central to connecting members of our community to the GBCSC, and for generating very important revenue for local cancer support.
Reporting to the Collingwood General Manager, the successful candidate will divide their time between working on site, and in the community. This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program and is ONLY eligible to individuals aged 15-30.
Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Act as event coordinator for the Georgian Bay Cycle for Hope, the GBCSC's largest fundraising event, and the region's biggest cycling event
- Participate in all Georgian Bay Cycle for Hope committee meetings, lending valuable insights and expertise to the event planning process
- Work with marketing team members to generate meaningful content to promote GBCSC events
- Connect with event participants to help facilitate the registration and fundraising process connected with the Georgian Bay Cycle for Hope
- Support event volunteer recruitment and management
- Take an active role in raising awareness of GBCSC events by coordinate opportunities for event promotion and exposure within the community.
- Actively participate in event-day operations at the Georgian Bay Cycle for Hope and other summer events.
- Participate in community outreach and engagement activities for the purpose of raising awareness of GBCSC events
Qualifications:
- MUST be aged 15-30 through the duration of the contract
- Ability to legally work in Canada
- Access to reliable transportation for occasional work off-site.
- Previous events experience is preferred
Relevant Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Attributes
- Knowledge and experience in event management and planning
- Excellent interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills
- Skilled in delivery of presentations, both live and through virtual platforms
- Exceptional customer and client services skills
- Ability to work as part of a team and to delegate responsibilities as needed
