What you will do

You will work on industrial computer vision systems that combine machine learning research with real-world manufacturing use. Depending on your background and interests, you will contribute to projects such as real-time wood chip quality monitoring and classification systems.

Your work may include task such as:

  • Working with industrial camera pipelines (e.g. Allied Vision), including robust image capture and ROI selection
  • Training and fine-tuning detection and segmentation models for material quality and particle analysis
  • Preparing and managing datasets from production systems, including labeling workflows and annotation conversion (e.g. YOLO formats)
  • Optimizing inference performance for reliable CPU and GPU deployment
  • Integrating ML outputs into industrial automation systems via Modbus TCP/IP (e.g. Siemens LOGO! PLCs), OPC-UA, and REST APIs
  • Implementing real-time decision logic that links model predictions to production constraints and actions
  • Developing web-based visualizations, reports, and operator tools to present model results, production metrics, and analytics in a clear and actionable way (Flask, JavaScript)

Who you are

You are a Master's level student (or equivalent) with a relevant background in Machine Learning and AI, Computer Science, Data Science, or Industrial Engineering.

You do not need to have experience in all areas listed below. We expect candidates to bring different strengths, and we will tailor your tasks accordingly. Experience or coursework in one or more of the following is considered a strong advantage:

  • Python development (NumPy, OpenCV, PyTorch, Flask)
  • Computer Vision fundamentals (detection, segmentation, YOLO, SAM)
  • Cloud ML platforms (Azure ML especially)
  • GPU computing for training and optimization
  • Industrial automation (PLC communication, Modbus, OPC-UA, industrial cameras)
  • Web development (REST APIs, dashboards, data visualization)

We will onboard you to your tasks, as well as the rules and ways of working in our workplace. From your first day, you are a full member of our working community, and we encourage you to be active, learn, and ask questions about your work.
