Job Description
Under general supervision, with latitude for independent initiative and judgement:
- Manage a caseload of investigations.
- Perform audits of Course Providers registered with the Department.
- Advise subordinates on investigative strategies and provide guidance on rules, regulations, codes, and policies of the Department.
- Conduct case reviews with investigators and oversee interviews of subjects and witnesses.
- Supervise and conduct fieldwork, including surveillance, undercover operations, site visits to active construction sites, and verifying compliance with training regulations and standards.
- Intake and review complaints, utilizing various databases and web-based programs to verify information and research public records.
- Write detailed narrative reports and testify at administrative hearings and criminal trials.
- Cooperate with the New York City Department of Investigations (DOI), District Attorneys' (DAs’) offices, and other investigative bodies on casework.
- Issue criminal summonses and Notices of Violation when necessary.
CIVIL SERVICE STATUS
Only permanent Associate Investigators, applicants reachable on the Associate Investigator Open Competitive list, applicants who are permanent Investigators and filed for the Associate Investigator promotion exam, and applicants as indicated below will be considered.
Candidates who are permanent in comparable civil service titles may be considered for title change under rule 6.1.9 of the Personnel Rules and Regulations of the City of New York.
REMOTE WORK
This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program.
ASSOCIATE INVESTIGATOR (NOT PR - 31121
Minimum Qualifications
1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of satisfactory, full-time experience as an investigator evaluating credit worthiness, searching for assets, verifying information concerning education, experience, and other personal qualifications bearing upon character and fitness for employment, or performing investigations involving the research, compilation and/or location of evidence or information in order to build a case or uncover activities of a criminal, corrupt, unlawful or unethical nature; or
2. An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory, full-time experience as described in "1" above; or
3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of satisfactory, full-time experience as described in "1" above; or
4. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above.
Preferred Skills
- Experience conducting investigations with strong interview and interrogation skills - Ability to communicate effectively with internal staff and external stakeholders as needed - Strong report writing skills with the ability to analyze and summarize voluminous and complex information - Ability to manage multiple investigations and projects simultaneously - A motor vehicle driver's license valid in the State of New York - Proficiency in database management and Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Lists

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
