We have a great opportunity within the T maki Makaurau Specialist teams for a Supervisor.
We are looking for a highly knowledgeable and supportive supervisor to lead the Ng P Harekeke o T maki team. This opportunity will suit someone who wants to increase their kete of knowledge, is comfortable working the family and youth court arenas, and is calm when managing crisis. Someone who feels confident working through complex and challenging situations and is willing to evidence kaitiakitanga in their practice. Someone who will manaaki and whakamanawa staff and lead through the OT values to support frontline mahi.
Mo te tunga | About the role
The T maki Makaurau Specialist Teams site is based at the Grey Lynn Oranga Tamariki office. The Ng P Harekeke o T maki team exists to meet the needs of complex tamariki who are in conflict with the law throughout T maki Makaurau through an intensive social work practice model. The team works with fewer wh nau than other social work teams, however the intensity of the mahi keeps everyone busy. As part of this team, staff are expected to have good knowledge of the Family and Youth Court arena's and have a proven ability to work with highly complex wh nau. Experience in supporting staff with creative plans, being dynamic, adaptable, positive and solutions focus all while keeping the wellbeing of the tamariki and wh nau at the centre is a must.
This role requires a passion to actively keep tamariki in the hearts and minds of everything we do. You will apply the principles of mana tamaiti, whakapapa and whanaungatanga to your practice, to ensure you are responsive to tamariki and wh nau. This role is fast paced and will require you to juggle many different scenarios at one time.
We recognise the importance of kaimahi ora (staff wellbeing) and are committed to ensuring you receive regular supervision (including external supervision), training and support to restore Oranga and wellbeing.
In addition to working alongside a supportive team, staff have training in addition to the regular Oranga Tamariki staff training (such as training in Motivational Interviewing, Intensive Wraparound Service Programme and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy).
Ng pumanawatanga ou | What you will bring
Within the specialist teams we're looking for candidates:
- Understanding the relationship between childhood trauma and subsequent offending
- Experienced with knowledge of Family or/and Youth Court
- Motivated to provide a high level of supervision and guidance to social workers
- understanding in managing complex rangatahi and wh nau
- A proven track record of being a team player
- Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga and te ao M ori, and Pacific peoples' cultures
- Good relationship and stakeholder management
- Knowledge of current models of practice
- Understand and practice the value of self-care to create resilience
- Full SWRB registration and current annual practicing certificate

Oranga Tamariki offer an impartial remuneration package, that offers progression annually for experience through tenure. Annual remuneration for this position starts between $111,020 and $133,968 dependant on experience.
