This position will travel between all of our locations in Sylvania, OH, Oregon, OH or Monroe, MI. Salary will commensurate with experience.

Overview

We are seeking a skilled Surgical Dental Assistant to support our oral surgery team by providing comprehensive chairside assistance during surgical procedures. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills, knowledge of dental and medical terminology, and a dedication to maintaining the highest standards of infection control and patient safety. This role offers an engaging opportunity to contribute to complex dental surgeries within a busy, patient-centered practice.

Duties

  • Assist surgeons during a variety of oral surgical procedures, including extractions, biopsies and implant placement.
  • Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing dental instruments and ensuring all necessary supplies are available for procedures.
  • Maintain strict adherence to infection prevention management and aseptic techniques to ensure patient safety.
  • Operate dental imaging equipment such as X-ray machines and 3D scanners to obtain accurate diagnostic images.
  • Manage medical documentation accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Take vital signs and assess patient comfort before, during, and after procedures; provide post-operative instructions as directed by the surgeon.
  • Support the dental reception team by managing appointment scheduling, patient check-in/out processes, and updating medical records.
  • Uphold clinical confidentiality policies while delivering compassionate care tailored to our patients.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Dental Assistant with specialization in surgical or oral surgery settings preferred.
  • Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, dental instrument processing, and sterilization procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to oral surgery.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic; experience with medical coding is advantageous.
  • Certification in X-ray operation and proficiency in dental x-ray techniques; additional training in 3D scanning is a plus.
  • Knowledge of infection control standards aligned with healthcare infection prevention and control expertise.
  • Ability to work effectively in four-handed dentistry setups alongside surgeons.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate patients about procedures while maintaining clinical confidentiality policies.
  • High school diploma; graduating from dental assistant school is preferred
