Description:
We are looking for a suitably qualified Team Leader until mid December 2025.
Key Responsibilities and Functions
Team Supervision and Management
- Ensure that toolbox meetings are undertaken on a regular basis. Regularly attend team leaders meetings.
- Undertake staff performance appraisals, as directed.
- Lead a crew of Operations workers in the implementation of approved assets maintenance activities as directed
- Advise on selection of contractors, supervise contractors, as directed to ensure compliance. Provide progress reports.
- Coordinate formative pruning and tree removals.
- Investigate customer requests relating to arboricultural matters and decide on action to be taken, and ensure appropriate action is undertaken as a matter of urgency.
- Provide advice to the Manager and Superintendent Operations on arboricultural and horticultural matters.
- Prepare reports and co-ordinate action on specialist matters such as tree surgery, pest eradication and property damage/personal injury claims.
- Provide assistance and advice to the Manager Operations and Superintendent Parks and Town Maintenance.

- Prepare programs for tree clearances over roadway and urban footpath networks and “underwire clearance” in designated areas.
- Conduct tree audit as per tree management strategy
- Develop risk management strategies for the proactive maintenance of Council's assets.
- Participate in knowledge/skills developmental training, or OH&S training as directed.
- Identify and report staff training needs.
- Assign staff, allocate resources and participate in and/or oversee work performance.
- Maintenance of trees in parks and gardens, recreation reserves, town streetscapes and roadsides where applicable.
- Develop and review processes for receiving, recording and resolving customer maintenance requests and for the completion of other unplanned maintenance tasks on roads, parks and gardens assets. Processes are to be developed and reviewed in consultation with the customer service team.
- Ensure that all maintenance activities (planned and unplanned) are recorded, and processes are developed in consultation with the Assets team for entering maintenance data into the Conquest asset management system.
- Ensure that adequate and appropriate supplies of tools and consumables are held so as to maximize output.
- Ensure that all maintenance work undertaken complies with Council’s specified standards, ensuring the highest standard(s) possible within budgetary limitations.
- Ensure that daily routine maintenance on assigned plant and equipment is carried out record and report any faults.
- The maintenance of strict confidentiality in any matter which may affect Council’s ability to negotiate effectively with suppliers and/or contractors.
- Participate in afterhours call out phone and standby duty roster.
- Ensure that all assigned plant and equipment is returned to a depot, or otherwise securely stored at end of shift.
- Report daily, any observed damage to Council assets.
- Undertake minor repairs to assigned plant and equipment.
- Accurately record daily work activities for reporting to Superintendent.
- Assist in the preparation and administration of budgets.
Skills and Experiences:

- Familiarity with budgeting techniques
- In depth knowledge of OHS regulations and how to apply them to the workplace
- Ability to deal effectively and diplomatically with complaints and enquiries.
- Keyboard and computer skills
- Tertiary qualification in Horticulture at certificate IV or above
