About The opportunity | Ko te āheinga:

The Team Leader, Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) is responsible for leading and managing the HSW team, providing strategic advice and support to the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council Executive Leadership Team, Councillors and staff. This position is responsible for the implementation and delivery of the HSW Strategic Plan, Annual HSW Implementation Plan and the Health and Safety Governance Charter.

The role is responsible for ensuring an effective health, safety and wellbeing culture is embedded across Council by partnering across the business to develop, support and deliver health safety and wellbeing strategic direction, work plans, policy, procedures, advice, and training programmes.

We are looking for a passionate result driven leader who prioritises health safety and wellbeing in a way that is positive, engaging and achieves enduring outcomes. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, lead with creative and practical solutions, and continue to build an inclusive workplace. You will be confident, decisive, and assertive when necessary but demonstrate flexibility and innovation. You will take pride in your work, have a proven ability to implement effective systems, have a pragmatic approach to problem solving to maximise resources.

To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • A relevant health and safety qualification, e.g. Diploma in Workplace Health and Safety, Bachelor of Applied Management – Occupational health and safety management (or similar).
  • At least 10 years’ experience as a health and safety partner or senior advisor.
  • Significant experience in developing and implementing health, safety and wellbeing policy and procedure.
  • An advanced knowledge of H&S legislation, particularly the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.
  • Experience and confidence presenting to both senior and operational teams.
  • Resilience, adaptability, and flexibility to keep up with the ever-changing nature of HBRC.
  • A HSW professional with CIMS or crisis management would be desirable.

What we offer | Nga huanga mōu:

The role is 40 hours per week and the salary range is between $110,500 to $130,000 and will depend on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
