Join Auckland Council as the Team Leader for Recreation at our Glenfield Pool and Leisure Centre and ActivZone and play a key part in making the experience of our customers fun, safe, and memorable!


In this dynamic role, you’ll lead the day-to-day operations of our busy and vibrant Recreation Department. Your focus will include:

  • Driving service improvements and innovation
  • Identifying opportunities to grow participation
  • Overseeing our sports leagues, OSCAR, and holiday programmes
  • Enhancing and expanding our current recreation offerings

You'll be part of a wider Leisure team committed to delivering great experiences and outcomes for our local communities.

You’ll have experience leading teams in the recreation, health, or fitness environment, along with a strong ability to build and maintain relationships across diverse communities.


You're someone who can think creatively, inspire your team, and implement exciting programmes that engage a wide range of participants. You enjoy a challenge and thrive in a busy, high-energy environment.


To be successful in this role, you’ll ideally have:

  • An NZ-recognised qualification in Sport or Recreation (Level 5) or equivalent experience
  • A current First Aid Certificate (or be willing to obtain one – we can support this)
  • A Full Clean Driver’s Licence (preferred but not essential)
  • An understanding of skate-based programming, including roller skates and operation of a skate rink, would be advantageous.

This is a permanent, full-time role (40 hours per week), rostered over 7 days. The ability to work mornings, evenings, and weekends is essential.

Starting rate: $75,000 - $85,000

Our employer Kiwisaver contribution is additional to base salary offered.
