Technical Team Leader - Data Transport And Complex Processing

At the Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) | Te Tira Tiaki, our mission is to protect and enhance Aotearoa New Zealand's security and wellbeing. We provide Signals Intelligence and Cyber Security and resilience to organisations of national significance to successfully navigate in an unpredictable world.

Our Technology & Data directorate are looking for a hands-on people leader to head up a team that is responsible for building high-throughput systems that move, transform and scale critical information to support our mission.

The role:
You will join a friendly, supportive team of individuals at our Marlborough facility, who are passionate about technology and the work we do for the intelligence community. As well as being able to provide advice and guidance as a subject matter expert, you will be the technical leader for a team whose functions include data distribution and transport activities, working with mission focused data collection systems, and complex processing.

You will support a number of engineers based in Blenheim, as well as a small number of team members in other locations, which may require you to occasionally travel domestically. This position will see you work closely with vendors and industry partners, partner agencies and other NZIC staff.

The expected appointing range for this role is $120,385 - $128,383 per annum.

Who are we looking for?

You will be a skilled system engineer with experience and expertise in Linux system administration and complex processing. You will also have the ability to lead a high functioning technical team to achieve their goals. In order to effectively support the team, you will also bring a capability for managing complex systems in a highly secure environment.

Perhaps you might also be able to tick some of the following:
Setting and maintenance of engineering standards
Directing the development and maintenance of IT capabilities and projects.
Technical design and documentation

It sounds like quite a mixture, doesn't it? You're right, it is! This is a job where a wide range of engineering experience meets a sound understanding of team dynamics and management. We're looking for the person who is a subject matter expert and who can lead by example and with empathy.

You must:
Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years

OR

Hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years
