Telephone Operator
Description

  • Answers and directs all internal and external calls from the main hospital number in a prompt and courteous manner, working with audio and radio paging systems.
  • Answers and screens all internal and external calls and pages/direct callers and emergency teams to the appropriate individual or department 60%
  • Provides daily maintenance service for the paging system. 30%
  • Knowledge of workstation applications and UH on call system used in the department. 10%
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain.
  • Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients.
  • Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
  • This position is part time 16 hours per week.
  • Nights and weekends.
  • Monday-Friday with rotating weekends and holidays.
Qualifications

  • High School Equivalent / GED required.
  • 2+ years of experience as a medical receptionist, telephone answering service, hospital, or telephone company operator required.
  • Medical Terminology preferred.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to use good judgment.
  • Excellent spelling, strong interpersonal skills, ability to maintain confidentiality, proven good work and attendance record.
  • Knowledge of basic office equipment such as computer systems, fax and copy machines.
  • Knowledge of phone and paging system.
