JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Therapeutic Recreation, this 1.0 EFT position focuses on goal directed, outcome-oriented behaviour that is designed to elicit meaningful experiences for the individual residents. In doing so, the incumbent will adhere to the Standards of Practice for Therapeutic Recreation. The Therapeutic Recreation Facilitator must adhere to the formal Therapeutic Recreation process, inclusive of assessment, planning, implementation an evaluation through goal directed and outcome-orientated interventions. The Therapeutic Recreation Facilitator collaboratively develops, implements and evaluates Therapeutic Recreation services and/or recreation-based activities for residents living in the Pembina Place Mennonite Personal Care Home.
REQUIREMENTS
- Certificate in Recreation Facilitator for Older Adults and/or an educational degree in a related field
- Current Certified Food Handlers Certificate
- Experience working with seniors - particularly in Long Term Care
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES
- Knowledge of individual and group facilitation techniques
- Knowledge of leisure options and adaptations
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and associated applications
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with team members
- Ability to communicate in American Sign Language an asset
- Proficient writing and verbal communication
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:
- Establish high interpersonal approaches and strategies to inspire stimulation and encourage on-going resident, family and volunteer involvements in programs.
- Implement programs under the direction of the Director of Therapeutic Recreation
- Develop and implement and evaluate group and individual therapeutic recreation activities
- Collaborate with community resources to enhance program development
- Document and articulate program rationale, goals, benefits, expected outcomes to programs to residents, family and team members
- Support the pet program and responsibilities associated with pet care
- Participate and support a respectful work environment
This role is responsible to supervise/direct volunteers and students in the recreation department as needed.
Successful candidates are required to provide a current (within 12 months) Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Persons Sector search as well as an Adult Abuse Registry Check.
