Town Coordinator

Duties and Responsibilities

The Town Coordinator is responsible for the daily operation of the office of the Select Board: preparing and posting of Board agenda, making recommendations and implementing Board decisions.

The Town Coordinator assists town officials in the preparation and review of budgets. Maintains required files and records. Tracks local aid and interprets the provisions of Mass. General Laws and serves as liaison with Town Counsel. Coordinates and compiles town reports, writes town meeting warrants, and coordinates information for town meetings.

The Town Coordinator acts as liaison between the Select Board and residents and local, state, and federal agencies and other groups as the Select Board and town’s representative. Reviews and advises departments regarding procurement and contracts. Prepares and oversees grants in support of Town projects with relevant boards and departments.

Work includes regularly scheduled evening work. Performance of duties requires ongoing contact with the public, and other town departments and employees; contacts are in person, by telephone, fax, email, and in writing.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree is required with administrative experience in a municipal or similar institutional environment. Management and supervisory experience preferred. A valid Massachusetts Driver’s License is required.

Knowledge of policies, principles and procedures of municipal government and public administration and applicable state and federal laws and regulations, town by-laws and federal and state grant programs is part of the job.

Knowledge of and experience with computer word-processing, spreadsheet and publication software and programs. Experience in researching, writing and administering grants is required.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in person, by phone, in writing and by email. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively and with tact in dealing with diverse groups of people including agency personnel, town officials, employees and citizens

Wage and Benefits

Starting at $30-33/hour, 32 hours per week with benefits with a potential expansion to 40 hours per week.
