Job Purpose

To provide excellent customer service at the trade counter, assisting both trade and retail customers with product selection, processing sales efficiently, and ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the counter in a fast-paced builders’ providers environment.

Key Responsibilities

Serve customers at the trade counter in a professional and friendly manner

Provide product advice and guidance on building materials, tools, and supplies

Process sales transactions accurately using the POS system

Handle cash, card payments, and account sales

Build and maintain strong relationships with trade customers

Answer phone and email enquiries promptly

Check stock availability and liaise with yard/warehouse staff

Prepare and follow up on quotations for customers

Upsell and promote relevant products and special offers

Assist with stock replenishment, merchandising, and maintaining a tidy counter area

Resolve customer queries and complaints effectively

Work collaboratively with colleagues in the yard, stores, and office

Key Skills & Experience

Essential:

Previous experience in a customer-facing sales role

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Good numeracy and attention to detail

Basic IT skills (POS systems, email, stock systems)

Desirable:

Experience in a builders’ merchants or hardware environment

Knowledge of building materials, plumbing, timber, or DIY products

Experience dealing with trade customers

Working Hours

Monday - Saturday will include occasional Sundays / Bank holiday Mondays

Pay: Up to €35,360.00 per year
