Position Summary
Pierce Excavation is seeking an experienced and dependable Truck Boss / Lead CDL Class A Driver to oversee daily trucking operations, manage drivers, coordinate dispatching, and ensure the safe and efficient transportation of materials and equipment to and from job sites. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with excellent communication skills, a commitment to safety, and hands-on experience operating side dumps, dump trucks, and heavy haul equipment. This position requires the ability to lead by example while maintaining compliance with DOT regulations and company standards. (Indeed)
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage daily activities of truck drivers and hauling operations.
- Coordinate dispatching, truck scheduling, and delivery logistics to support excavation projects.
- Operate and oversee the operation of side dumps, dump trucks, lowboys, and other Class A vehicles.
- Transport heavy equipment, construction materials, aggregates, and supplies to and from job sites.
- Ensure drivers complete daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections and maintain DOT compliance.
- Monitor vehicle condition and coordinate routine maintenance, repairs, and service schedules.
- Maintain accurate driver logs, haul tickets, inspection reports, maintenance records, and other required paperwork.
- Train, mentor, and support drivers on safe operating procedures and company expectations.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, foremen, dispatch personnel, mechanics, and customers.
- Ensure loads are properly secured and transported safely.
- Promote and enforce all company safety policies and procedures.
- Assist with field operations and trucking needs as required to keep projects running efficiently. (Indeed)
Qualifications
- Valid CDL Class A license with a clean driving record.
- Minimum 3–5 years of commercial driving experience in excavation, construction, or trucking operations.
- Experience operating side dumps, dump trucks, lowboys, and heavy haul equipment.
- Strong knowledge of DOT regulations, load securement, and transportation safety requirements.
- Experience supervising or managing drivers and coordinating dispatch operations.
- Ability to perform routine truck maintenance and identify mechanical issues.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage paperwork and multiple schedules.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing job site demands.

Preferred Qualifications
- Excavation or heavy civil construction experience.
- Experience hauling heavy equipment using lowboy trailers.
- Knowledge of equipment loading, unloading, and securement procedures.
- Leadership experience in trucking, excavation, or construction operations.
