In this position, you'll start by travelling across Canada's expansive rail network, helping to ensure the safety of the nations infrastructure - one journey at a time. Along the way, you'll gain a deep understanding of our company's systems and processes. Eventually, you'll transition into an in-office auditing role based in Edmonton, AB.

Ultra-Traxx is a leading provider of railroad flaw detection. We're seeking a skilled ultrasonic testing technician who's not only experienced, but ready to step into a more stable, office-based role while still making a meaningful impact..

Responsibilities:

First 6 - 9 Months:

  • Operate and maintain rail flaw detection equipment to identify defects in railroad tracks.
  • Conduct thorough examinations using ultrasonic testing techniques
  • Perform all flaw detection tasks, including data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and safety standards during testing
  • Maintain accurate records of examination results and equipment maintenance

After 6+ Months:

  • Conduct regular audits of ultrasonic testing data, procedures, and documentation to ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies
  • Verify that testing equipment is properly calibrated and maintained according to standards and manufacturer guidelines
  • Review and analyze testing data and reports for accuracy and completeness
  • Prepare detailed audit reports highlighting findings, non-conformities, and recommendations for improvement
  • Present audit findings to management and suggest corrective actions
  • Ensure all testing records and documentation are accurate and accessible
  • Stay current with industry standards, codes, and regulations, updating practices as needed
  • Serve as a backup Chief Operator to provide coverage during operational needs
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working as a Chief Operator
  • Valid Driver's License (CDL would be considered an asset)
  • Proven experience operating and maintaining rail flaw detection equipment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Willingness to work in outdoor environments and travel as needed
  • Passport or dual citizenship would be considered an asset
  • Computer proficiency
  • Ability to read instructions written in English and follow technical specifications.
  • Able to understand safety regulations, safe work practices and work procedures and be capable of assisting in maintaining safe work sites
  • Proficiency in the safe operation and maintenance of equipment and tools used for everyday use.

Work Environment On-Road:

  • Travelling to client locations from coast to coast
  • Outdoor work year-round
  • Shifts between 8-12 hours
  • Lift and carry up to 30lbs
  • Climbing, walking, and bending throughout the day

Work Environment Office:

  • Ability to commute daily to Edmonton
  • The ability to travel on occasion to client locations from coast to coast
  • Typical office hours are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, with some flexibility to start and end shift as needed

Pay: $28.00-$45.00 per hour
