Position Objective and Role Statement:

As a representative of Swick Mining Services an underground driller is expected to uphold and maintain at all times the standards and values of the company. An underground driller must have sound knowledge of all drilling conditions and operating machinery and ensure all personnel are fit to participate in work in a safe manner according to legislative requirements and the requirements of the client and Swick Mining Services.

Responsibilities:

· Act as a direct representative of Swick Mining Services in the absence of supervisor

· Oversight of drill crew to ensure safe work practice is maintained at all times

· Onsite training of trainee driller

· Support of trainee driller in satisfying drill hour requirements

· Application of principles of best practice in all aspects of drilling operations at all times

Essential Functions:

· Oversee helper/ trainee driller pre-start

· Check all tools and equipment to be taken underground has been collected by helper/trainee driller

· Ensure all crew have correct PPE

· Ensure site is safe prior to commencing operation – visual check and authorise scaling if required

· Oversight of general housekeeping

· Rig pre-start

· Mix muds

· Surveys conducted at start of hole and every 30 metres thereafter(or as specified by client)

· Ensure camera is in working order and operating correctly

· Monitor gas levels

· Accurate recording of survey information

· Inform client(where appropriate) of incorrect survey information

· Read and interpret drill plans

· Accurately record hole depths

· As a direct representative of Swick Mining Services liaise with the client in an appropriate manner at all times

· Accurately complete plods at the end of each day

· Fill in cross over book/diary daily

· Organise and supervise crew

· Maintain safe work practice at all times

Authority Levels:

· Trainee driller

· Helper

· Green Helper

Selection Criteria:

· Physically fit

· Excellent communication skills

· In good standing within Swick

· Ability to lead others by example

Essential:

· Senior First Aid Certificate

· Current drivers licence

· Current police clearance

· Sound mechanical knowledge of the functions of a drill rig

· Minimum of 12 months industry experience

· Completion of training hours

· Ability to read and accurately interpret drill plans

· Sound knowledge of principles of best practice in OH&S

Pay: From $40.00 per hour
