Your personal sphere of influence:
As a university assistant , you will complement/complete the research team around Verena Jantsch. You will work on DDK (Dbf4 dependent protein kinase) in the context of meiosis using the model system Caenorhabditis elegans. The group is based at Max Perutz Labs on the Vienna Biocenter Campus.

The Max Perutz Labs bring together the groups working in molecular biology at the University of Vienna. In order to intensify the collaboration with the Medical University of Vienna in the field of molecular biosciences, the Max Perutz Labs were founded in 2005. We maintain high-tech research infrastructures at two neighbouring locations, where around 450 scientists from more than 40 nations work in basic biomedical research in more than 45 research groups.
Employment duration: The employment duration is 3 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 3 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a declaration of non-extension. With appropriate work progress, an extension to a total maximum of 4 years is possible.
Your future tasks:
- Contribution to your research project with studying the regulation of DNA end resection in meiosis in C.elegans.
- Contribution to the identification of potential substrates of DDK.
- You work on your dissertation and its completion.
- Participation in publications / academic articles / presentations.
- Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
- Involvement in the organization of meetings, conferences, symposia.
- You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.
- Supervision of BSc and MSc students.
This is part of your personality:
- University degree in Biology, Molecular Genetics or related fields.
- Successful VBC PhD program Selection or similar international PhD Selection required.
- Practical experience in handling the model organism C. elegans, cytological, genetic and biochemical assays.
- In-depth knowledge of the meiotic cell division program.
- Experience in genetics and biochemistry.
- Experience with basic imaging processing.
- High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing.
- Computer literacy (MS-Office; Imaging Software).
- Basic experience in academic writing.
- Didactic competences/ experience with e-learning.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English (Cl Level).
- Ability to work in a team.
- Knowledge of university processes and structures.
