Your work environment

As assistant, you will join the team of Professor Michael Waibel. We welcome diversity in our inclusive, international team. Our research and teaching focuses on public international law and international economic law. You will contribute to research, teaching and administration. We offer flexible working arrangements, on-the.job-learning and a collegiate atmosphere. The team of Professor Waibel currently consists of 1 post doc, 5 s and 1 administrative colleague.


The contract period is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship will automatically be extended to 4 years, if the employer does not submit a declaration of non-renewal within the first 12 months.

Your future tasks

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration. In particular,

  • You write a PhD thesis in international law and conclude a dissertation supervision agreement within 12 months.
  • You contribute to the team’s international research projects.
  • You co-teach with Professor Waibel or teach on your own, in accordance with the collective labour agreement (up to 2 hours per week), including the exam preparation course in international law and coach a moot court team (Jessup or investment moot), as needed
  • You carry out administrative tasks in research and teaching (such as examining) and help organising workshops and conferences

Your profile

  • A law degree with good grades (already obtained or expected within two months of the application deadline)
  • Demonstrated interest in the international dimension of law; passion for international aspects of legal research
  • Experience in writing and editing legal texts
  • Outstanding English language skills (written and spoken); good knowledge of German or readiness to acquire such language skills (written and spoken)
  • Team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Capacity to work in a structured way and independently; strong organisational skills
  • Additional experience (e.g., a second university degree in law or a related discipline; experience working in a law firm or international organisation), as well as teaching experience, are an asset
