University Teacher In Art Education And Art Pedagogy

Aalto University's Department of Art and Media is looking for a university teacher of art education and art pedagogy as of 1 January 2026 or as agreed. The position is permanent and is placed on the first level of .

Your role

You will work as a member of the teaching team of the art education major and take part in the planning and teaching of courses, the personal guidance of students and the development of the curriculum. You will play a significant role in the teaching of art education at the bachelor's and master's level, and especially in the implementation of teacher's pedagogical studies and the related cooperation networks. You will act as a thesis supervisor and take part in student admissions and other processes related to the major. You will also take part in the teaching of the joint program of art and media. Administrative tasks are part of the job.

Co-teaching and co-learning play an important role in the major in art education, so planning courses and projects in collaboration with other teachers is a natural way for you to work. In addition, you have an independent approach to teaching. Teaching takes place mainly on the Aalto campus. In addition to contact teaching, you are familiar with the diverse methods of online teaching.

Your experience

We are looking for a university teacher who is already actively working in the field of art education. In future work, we require commitment to the development of teacher education. Experience as a subject teacher of visual arts at the primary and/or secondary level is considered an advantage. In addition, we value experience in teaching at the higher education, for example in teacher education, and the ability to apply research knowledge in teaching. The person selected for the position must have a qualification as a subject teacher of visual arts.

We require good oral and written skills in Finnish, as the languages of instruction in the art education are Finnish and Swedish. We consider the ability to work in Swedish to be an advantage. English is used as the working language at Aalto University in many contexts, so fluent English language skills support working in the position and related networks.
