Gig Description
As an independent contractor, you'll provide on-site FLM support in Washington, DC-area data centers on an as-needed basis. This includes hardware replacements, troubleshooting, and installations for next business tickets (90%) and urgent tickets under a 4-hour SLA (10%). Work is gig-based with flexible scheduling, but we need reliable techs ready to respond within 4 hours for pending client requests. Local travel within 200 miles is required, with mileage reimbursed. All charges include expenses like tools and transportation.

IMPORTANT: This is a 1099 independent contractor position. No employment relationship is established with Hype Telecom, LLC. You will operate as your own business entity, responsible for your own taxes, insurance, and compliance with all applicable laws. No benefits, overtime, or employee perks are provided. No guaranteed hours – gigs depend on client demand.

Key Responsibilities:

• Replace field replaceable units (FRUs) to restore equipment to operational condition, including inserting/removing circuit boards.
• Assist in on-site problem determination, install/monitor test equipment, and execute software diagnostics.
• Install/de-install equipment, engineering changes (ECs), baseline software, and program temporary fixes (PTFs); verify hardware/software operations.
• Connect/disconnect cables, dress and secure connections, unpack/pack equipment, and schedule pickups for returns.
• Perform site assessments/surveys (e.g., electrical, cabling, wireless) and document work with photos/test results via our portal.
• Ensure compliance with industry best practices, including pre/post-work photos and spare parts return processes.

Requirements:

• Proven hands-on experience in data centers with FLM or field technician roles – must have at least 2 years in hardware/software support environments.
• Expert proficiency with testing tools, including OTDR, optical power meter, fiber cleaning kit, volt meter, and loopback kits (DDS/T1/DS3).
• Strong knowledge of networking, cabling (Cat6, fiber LC/SC/FC), hardware installations, and data center safety protocols.
• Valid driver's license, reliable personal vehicle, and ability to travel within 200 miles of Washington, DC.
• Availability for immediate start – must respond to tickets within 4 hours and work flexible hours, including evenings/weekends/OOH.
• High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, Fiber Optic Association, Orange ASP) highly preferred.
• Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs, work in secure environments, and provide your own tools/PPE (full list upon application).
• Access to laptop with terminal emulation (e.g., PuTTY), mobile internet, and ability to install freeware like Cisco VPN/Skype for remote support.

Rules and Expectations for Contractors (Must Agree to Comply):
To ensure elite performance and compliance with hyperscale standards, all contractors must adhere to the following:

• Invoice Submission: Submit detailed invoices weekly for completed gigs, including hours worked, tasks, photos, and documentation. Payment processed within 7 days of approval.
• Confidentiality and Security: Sign an NDA upon acceptance; comply with cyber security protocols (e.g., no unauthorized access, firewall/antivirus on devices) and incident reporting (24/7 line for accidents/near misses). Breaches may result in 100% callout deduction and suspension.
• Compliance and Liability: Maintain your own business insurance (general liability recommended), workers' comp if applicable, and comply with MA/federal laws (e.g., IRS 1099 rules). You are solely responsible for taxes and personal expenses.
• Performance Standards: Meet 4-hour SLAs for on-site arrival; provide pre/post-work photos and valid training certs. Failure (e.g., missing tools/PPE) may deduct 100% costs or terminate gigs.
• Tools and Equipment: Provide all required tools (e.g., screwdrivers, pliers, anti-static gear, fiber cables) and unbranded PPE (Hi-Vis, goggles, gloves, hard hat); reimbursements case-by-case.
• Mileage Reimbursement: Reimbursed at $0.51/mile (submit odometer/GPS logs).
• Reporting and Communication: WhatsApp group chat. No-shows impact future gigs.
• Independent Status: Do not represent as Hype Telecom employee; all work at-will.
