Responsible for utilities locating coordination across multiple departments, including the facilities, real estate, and planning departments, in support of construction, maintenance, utility projects, and events. Working under minimal supervision, with high accuracy and attention to detail, performs reactive and preventive maintenance service to ensure proper operation of campus utility systems. This person is expected to be fully proficient in their respective trade. Provides operational ownership to one or more utility systems and assists all utility systems and operations.

Essential Functions:
- Utilities Locating Coordination: performs or assists in coordinating all digging, excavating, trenching, or grading on University properties. Reads, understands, and maintains site plans, area maps, and blueprints to determine the approximate location of underground high-voltage electrical cables, water lines, sewer lines, steam lines, gas lines, telephone, and other communications lines, as well as duct banks and electric/water/gas taps to buildings.
- Performs underground utilities locating.
- Manages confined space entry permit process per EHS requirements.
- Electrical Distribution: performs or assists with repairs to Medium Voltage electrical distribution systems and generators; performs installations of electrical distribution equipment; performs or assists responses to all electrical requests; performs preventive maintenance on electrical equipment as scheduled, including building level switching, metering, outside lighting, and event setups.
- Water/ Sewer Distribution: performs or assists maintenance and repairs to distribution infrastructure including building level valves and metering, divisional valves, and backflow preventers, performs preventive maintenance on water distribution system as scheduled.
- Chilled Water Operations: performs or assists operations and maintenance for all chilled water production; performs or assists repairs to chiller units and plants; performs or assists monitoring of chilled water distribution loop and chemical equipment; performs or assists functions such as daily logs, PM tasks, rodding chillers, cleaning cooling towers, monitoring system condition, and responding to all requests for chilled water system; performs preventive maintenance on chiller equipment as scheduled. Monitors automated control systems.
- Stormwater Infrastructure: performs or assists stormwater monitoring and repairs, performs PM tasks on all stormwater equipment, bio cells, outfalls, maintains inspection records, etc.
- Steam Distribution: performs or assists in repairs to steam distribution systems, including tunnel inspections, main drip leg trap maintenance, building level valves, and reducing stations. Building level Hot Water boiler operations and maintenance.
- Utility Metering: performs or assists in the operation, maintenance, and calibration of campus and building level metering, including electrical, water, chilled water, steam, and natural gas.
- Works alongside service providers and F&CS project managers related to contracted service work and construction projects involving utility systems.
- Contributes to solving problems associated with utilities systems operation and maintenance.
Other Functions:
- This position may be designated as essential personnel to support business continuity in the event of campus emergencies, disasters, or other special needs as directed by management. - Follows all University and departmental policies and procedures.
- Reports all matters of safety to the appropriate Supervisor and the Environmental Health and Safety Director, if necessary.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- High School diploma plus specialized training with three to five years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficient knowledge and skills in the preventive maintenance repair and installation of utility systems. These systems include but are not limited to electrical, water sewer, chilled water, stormwater, steam, utility metering, and underground locating.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record must be able to meet the requirements of the University’s automobile insurance.
- Ability to effectively communicate in English with students, faculty, and staff sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
- Ability to read, understand, and abide by all safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to effectively utilize computer software and systems to communicate, monitor, interface, and troubleshoot systems.
- Contribute to solving problems associated with equipment operation and maintenance.
- Heavy work. Talking, hearing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, grasping. Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as the operation of machines, using measurement devices, and/or visual inspections of small parts or devices. Subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside. Subject to hazards.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Technical license and/or certification desired in a primary trade.
- Good problem-solving skills desired.
