POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Veterinarian – Public and Shelter Veterinary Services to join our dynamic team in Sudbury, Ontario. About the Role:

Reporting to the Clinic Manager, with a dotted line to the Chief Veterinary Officer, our Sudbury Veterinarian will be vital in supporting animal welfare through spay/neutersurgery while contributing to a meaningful cause by expanding access to veterinary care in Northern communities. This is a region where basic veterinary services, like spay/neuter procedures, are not always available, and animal overpopulation can be a pressing concern. Duties may include shelter medicine for Ontario SPCA animals, such as preventative basic veterinary services, surgical procedures, and dental services. You’ll work alongside a compassionate and dedicated team of professionals, and your expertise will directly benefit the animals and communities in need.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide quality medical, surgical and dental care for animals while ensuring compliance with legal requirements (CVO guidelines, Veterinarians Act)
  • Make appropriate and resource-effective decision-making while practicing evidence-based medicine
  • Handle animals properly, gently and compassionately using Fear Free practices; always conscious of their safety/comfort; genuine care displayed in handling the animals
  • Perform spay/neuter surgeries on cats and dogs
  • Provide excellent care for animals before, during, and after surgery
  • Support Shelter Medicine medical direction for the animals in the Ontario SPCA Sudbury Animal Centre
  • Attend and participate in workshops, seminars and in-service training to further personal education, skills and training
  • Ensure all animal health situations follow Ontario SPCA medical protocols and policies
  • Work closely with clinic medical team to ensure the health and safety of all animals
  • Embrace a culture of teaching and education; participate in coaching and mentoring of staff, students and veterinary mentees
  • Be available when needed for issues or problems related to job duties and responsibilities including on-call hours (in a limited capacity)

Qualifications:

  • DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) with the ability to practice in Ontario
  • Experience in HQHVSN is an asset
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Passion for animal welfare and making a difference in the community
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
