Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Village Collector to join our team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for managing the collection of outstanding accounts within the village, ensuring timely payments while maintaining positive client relationships. The ideal candidate will possess strong negotiation skills, industry knowledge of financial regulations, and proficiency with financial software and data analysis tools.

Duties

  • Collect and deposit General Fund revenues.
  • Illinois Municipal League Risk Coordinator.
  • Workers compensation and liability claims.
  • Liquor license and revenues.
  • Vending license and revenues.
  • Payroll.
  • Data entry of hours.
  • Calculation of payroll.
  • Prepare checks payroll checks and supporting reports.
  • Quarterly 941 reports.
  • Prepare W-2 statements and year end payroll reports.
  • Federal employment survey.
  • Maintain all payroll records.
  • Work with the Illinois department of unemployment on claims.
  • Accounts payable.
  • Maintain chart of accounts.
  • Data entry of invoices/water billing.
  • Cut checks for account payable.
  • Mail checks.
  • Maintain account payable files.
  • Accounts receivable.
  • Bill for water meters.
  • Hold water hearings to negotiate pay.
  • Send out shutoff notices for delinquent bills.
  • Miscellaneous billing.
  • Collect all monies due to the Village from whatever source and in a timely manner as required by statute, forward money collected to the Village Treasurer.
  • Maintain cemetery records in office and with the State of Illinois cemetery database.
  • Sell burial plots.
  • Sell IDNR hunting and fishing license.
  • Deputy to the Village Clerk.
  • Freedom of information act officer.
  • Notary.
  • Answer phones, return messages. Front desk help.
  • Qualifications
  • Experience in, accounts payable, or collections account management.
  • Strong understanding of accounting concepts such as debits & credits, account reconciliation.
  • Excellent phone communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) along with familiarity with accounting software and Locis billing software (training available ).
  • Strong math skills combined with attention to detail for account analysis and reconciliation tasks.
  • Exceptional customer service skills with a professional approach to client communication and conflict resolution.
  • Obtain FOIA (Freedom of Information Act)certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Obtain OMA (Open Meetings Act) certification within 30 days of hire.

Pay: From $24.00 per hour
