About the role

This position if permanent part-time working 16 hours per week - Thursday and Friday 4pm to 8pm - Saturday and Sunday (4 hours which can be flexible).

Our clerical team provide a key role in the effective function of our ward. The work involves transaction of admissions, discharges, transfers and management of patient records.

Working in the reception area you will be the first point of contact for patients/tūroro, family/whanau, visitors and various hospital and health provider staff.

To be successful in this role you will ideally be from a clerical background, be an excellent communicator and have fantastic organisational skills. As front of house you will need a friendly and welcoming disposition and a willingness to help those around you.

Responsibilities include:

  • General clerical, administrative and reception tasks and support to the ward
  • Entering accurate information to the patient management system
  • Answering phones and greeting patients and their families
  • Delivering great customer service
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality
  • Supporting CNM with other administrative tasks as delegated

About the Team/Service/ Location

A8 is a unique ward accommodating both the Acute Stroke Unit and Vascular Surgery specialties. We have a wide range of complex patient presentations which includes acute and elective, medical and surgical, local and wider South Island.

Currently there are 24 inpatient ward beds, and 4 progressive care beds. We are based within the Waipapa building which provides a very nice physical environment to work within.

We are a passionate and dynamic team who support a diverse patient group, as well as each other.

About you

  • Have reception or office administration experience, or customer service experience
  • Previous health service experience or a basic understanding of medical terminology is an advantage
  • Have strong computer skills, be organised and task orientated
  • Be an excellent communicator and uphold a professional manner with patients/tūroro, family / whanau and colleagues
  • Have an eye for detail and a high level of accuracy in your work
  • Be able to prioritise and keep calm in busy situations
  • Be adaptable and able to complete numerous tasks simultaneously
  • Enjoy being part of a team
