Job Summary
Responsible for carrying out specific field monitoring requirements for the Region’s Permit-To-Take-Water Monitoring and Contingency Plans. This position supports the collection, management, QA/QC, and analysis of hydrogeological and hydrological data within Regional Well Fields to support compliance with the Region’s Permit-To-Take-Water and the Ontario Water Resources Act (O. Reg. 903.)
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform groundwater and surface water monitoring and data collection, management, analysis and QA/QC for Halton Region’s Groundwater Monitoring Program in order to meet Permit-To-Take-Water requirements.
- Maintain and calibrate field monitoring equipment (i.e., data loggers, mini-piezometers, flow trackers) to ensure accuracy of data collection.
- Compile, manage, and analyze new and historical field data (e.g., prepare hydrographs and water quality concentration versus time graphs) and related information from hydrogeological reports.
- Communicate monitoring results to internal and external stakeholders via email and technical memos.
- Prepare mapping to present monitoring locations and data using GIS software.
- Create and maintain monitoring well maintenance logs to fulfill Drinking Water Quality Management System requirements. Coordinate and support monitoring well installations, repairs, and decommissioning with licensed well contractors in accordance with O. Reg. 903.
Skills & Qualifications
- Degree or diploma from an earth / environmental sciences or environmental / water resources engineering program.
- Two (2) years of related experience.
- Familiar with ground and surface water monitoring, instrumentation, data collection/management, and quality assurance.
- Self-motivated, a strong communicator, and adept at data management, analysis and reporting.
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and safe work practices.
- Strong organizational skills and a strong commitment to work cooperatively and safely in a team environment.
- Experience with software such as Access, GIS, and Office.

- The incumbent will be required to work at Halton Regional Center and in addition to completing field work.
